Who we are
We are FirstGate, a company registered under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Our aim is to rid our contemporary society of offensive and toxic odours which not only pollute the environment but also pose great health challenges to our people particularly in Nigeria, through the use of organic, eco-friendly materials, rather than the traditional chemical-based solutions.
Our track record of achievement of targeted results and efficiency can be verified from a number of companies, hotels and other business premises.
Identification of the problem:
The challenges of efficient waste management, pollution and degradation of the quality of air that people inhale, management of domestic and industrial waste, keeping the markets, the streets and highways clean, ensuring that food and other farm products are kept in hygienic and clean conditions, canals, drainages and sewage ducts are freed, cleaned and kept flowing must be tackled head-long.
All public places such as open markets, abattoirs, public sewages, hospitals environment, refuse dump sites, industries and so on, must be constantly deodorized and freed from toxic air from time to time to reduce environmental pollution and improve the health status of the people.
Methods of tackling the challenges:
While traditional waste and odour management and control methods are near-perfect, the use of harsh chemicals deployed in this option can compromise the health of both individuals and the community at large. The environment is the greatest loser here as the effect of poisonous chemicals are emitted uncontrollably into the atmosphere.
As such, a growing number of countries of the developed world are turning towards organic odour and infectious diseases control methods. These are effective, safe, and eco-friendly solutions which keep the homes and environment clean, deodorized and infection-free through the use of naturally sourced substances and methods that are harmless to humans and pets but are lethal for dangerous bacteria and pests.
Advantages of Organic Waste Management, odour and infection control methods:
Safety: One of the most compelling reasons to opt for organic odour and waste management and control method is its safety aspect. Traditional odour and infection control methods employ synthetic chemicals and fragrances that can harm humans and pets. On the other hand, organic methods pose little or no health risks to human beings. Children and the aged in the society who are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of the traditional chemical-based odour control and waste management methods due to their developing and depreciating immune systems respectively, are significantly safer with organic alternatives.
Eco-Friendly Approach to Environment: Organic odour and waste management and control methods are not just beneficial for the homes but also for the larger environment. Chemical-based fragrances and pesticides can seep into the soil, water, and air, causing extensive environmental damage. They can harm non-target organisms like birds, bees, and beneficial insects, thereby disrupting the delicate balance of our ecosystems but in stark contrast, the organic odour and waste control option promotes bio-diversity and helps in maintaining ecological balance.
Championing Sustainable Choices: Embracing organic odour and waste management and control is just the beginning.
Value Chain: The organic odour and waste management and control products our company seeks to offer are mainly odour neutralizers, disinfectants and insecticides. Opportunity to employ a large majority of youths in both the production assembly of the products and in its application around identified locations would be assured.
The value-chain that will be created through the production/manufacturing of the products will also be to the benefit of the people in the communities because of the direct and indirect employment opportunities that will be generated through this effort. Factory workers, people employed to disinfect, fumigate, deodorize, sell and distribute the various products will surely be required.
Conclusion
Keeping the environment odour and infection-free is a matter of vigilance, intentional prevention and effective intervention when and where necessary.
Employment of professional odour and waste management and control services are invaluable for dealing with larger or more stubborn infestations sites like markets, abattoirs, hospital and mortuary environment, waste dump sites and other critical odour and pest-infested locations.
Solid Waste
Governments are tasked with handling a large amount of solid waste from landfills, sludge and solid waste treatment plants, composting facilities, and more. By nature, these facilities produce foul odors that are often offensive to workers and residents in the community.
Landfills
Local laws can often restrict composting use of wastewater sludge, making municipalities discard it in landfills. When transport vehicles dump their loads, disturbing solid waste odor-causing compounds, powerful odors are released.
Transfer Stations
Because transfer stations are used to transport residential and commercial trash, they tend to be located near neighbors. Atomization nozzles or vapor ducting can be located directly beneath the ceiling of these stations over load-out and tipping areas to eliminate waste handling smells and manage landfill odor control. As a side benefit, high volume atomization systems suppress dust along with odor.
How to Use
At landfills and composting facilities, Spray Gel can be used to cap material and keep odors from escaping. Atomization and vaporization systems are also effective at removing odors from transfer stations and solid waste storage areas.
In addition to atomized spray, it is also available for use in a Spray Gel, which topically caps odors from escaping into the atmosphere. The environmentally-friendly Spray Gel can be evenly added onto trucks hauling solid waste and around landfills.
Odor Sources
-
Wastewater sludge produces sulfide compounds.
-
Composting and co-composting facilities emit nitrogenous compound odors.
-
Gases from landfills contain large amounts of odorous mercaptans.
Waste Away Odors With Landfill Odor Control Products
All areas of solid waste handling are, by nature, smelly jobs. Municipal sludge and solid waste, landfills, composting, and co-composting facilities all generate odors offensive to workers and the community. The solid waste process is complex, with multiple drops, collections, transfers, and sorting of recyclable and non-recyclable material. Combustible materials can also be incinerated for energy production — causing more bad odors.
As with most odors, agitation makes it worse. When solid waste is offloaded or compost rows are turned, bad odors increase. Whether in a localized area or to surround a composting shed or landfill, products can be used to control these malodors. Dispersion systems can also be added to site hardware to control odors as they are released by machinery such as graders and tillers.
